# Importing styles, samples & drum kits

Bring files from anywhere into your SET: styles from KORG, PA5X, Yamaha, Medeli and Ketron (converted automatically), and samplers or drum kits from SoundFont, Medeli, Yamaha and KORG Triton/Kronos files — into KORG SETs and Medeli AKX sets.

In this chapter:

- Which style formats you can import into a KORG SET, and how
- Which sampler and drum kit files you can import, and where
- Importing into Medeli AKX packs
- What is kept and what is not

## Everything you can import — at a glance

| What | Into a KORG SET / KST | Into a Medeli AKX set |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Styles** | `.STY` (KORG bank) · `.stg` (PA5X) · `.sty` Yamaha · `.sty` Medeli · `.kst` Ketron · `.mid` with section markers — right-click an empty style slot → **Import Style** | Any of those formats — right-click a Styles pack → **Import Style…** |
| **Samplers** (sounds) | `.sf2` · `.voi` (Medeli) · `.uvn` (Yamaha) · `.kmp` + `.ksf` (KORG Triton / Kronos / Nautilus) — right-click an empty slot of a sampler bank → **Import Sampler** | `.voi` · `.uvn` · `.kmp` — right-click a Samples pack → **Add .voi / .uvn / .kmp files…** |
| **Drum kits** | `.sf2` · `.kit` (Medeli) · `.uvd` (Yamaha) — right-click an empty slot of a drum kit bank → **Import DrumKit** | `.kit` · `.uvd` — right-click a DrumKits pack → **Add .kit / .uvd files…** |
| From a **KORG SET** | Drag from SET B (see [Combining SETs](https://pasetexplorer.com/tutorials?c=combining-sets)) | Drag KORG styles, samplers and drum kits onto the packs |

> **Note:** WAV files cannot be imported directly as a sampler. Put your WAVs into a SoundFont (.sf2) first — most free sampler tools can do this — and import the .sf2.

## Import a style into a KORG SET

**Step 1 — Right-click an empty style slot**

In SetManager → STYLES, find an empty slot (“- - -”) in SET A and right-click it. Choose **Import Style**.

Numbered marks on this screenshot:

1. An empty slot.
2. **Import Style**.

**Step 2 — Choose where the style comes from**

![Screenshot](https://pasetexplorer.com/images/docs/sm-import-style.webp)

Numbered marks on this screenshot:

1. Any format is converted with the Converter and inserted into the empty slot.
2. **From Community** — one of your downloaded Community styles.
3. **From Resources** — a style of your Resources library.
4. **Browse…** — any style file on your PC: KORG .STY bank or PA5X .stg, Yamaha / Medeli .sty, Ketron .kst (or a .mid).

**Step 3 — Done — the style is in your SET**

Here a Yamaha Tyros style (“Ardeal VA.T108.STY”) was converted and inserted into slot 37:

Numbered marks on this screenshot:

1. The imported Yamaha style, now a KORG style.
2. “Style imported”.
3. Other empty slots — ready for more.
4. The bank’s “New Style” template.
5. Another change waiting for Save.

| The file is… | What happens |
| --- | --- |
| A KORG .STY bank with several styles | A list opens — pick the style you want. |
| A PA5X .stg | Into a KORG SET it is rebuilt as a KORG style; into a PA5X KST folder bank it stays .stg. |
| A Yamaha .sty / Medeli .sty / Ketron .kst | Converted to KORG automatically. |
| A .mid | Accepted only if it has style section markers (Main A, Intro A, Fill In AA…). Otherwise you get a clear message. |

**Tips:**

- The format is detected from the file’s content, not only its name — so a Medeli .sty and a Yamaha .sty are never confused.
- Want more control (tracks, chord rules, tempo)? Convert it first in the [Converter](https://pasetexplorer.com/tutorials?c=converter) with Style Settings, then import the converted file.
- Importing also works on an empty slot of **SET B**.

## Import a sampler or drum kit into a KORG SET

**Step 1 — Right-click an empty sound slot**

In SetManager → SOUNDS, right-click an empty slot. In a sampler bank the menu says **Import Sampler (.sf2 .voi .uvn .kmp)…**, in a drum kit bank **Import DrumKit (.sf2 .kit .uvd)…**.

Numbered marks on this screenshot:

1. An empty slot of the User 2 bank.
2. **Import Sampler (.sf2 .voi .uvn .kmp)…**

**Step 2 — Pick the file**

Choose your file. For a KORG multisample pick the `.kmp` (its `.ksf` samples must be next to it).

**Step 3 — Check and import**

![Import Sampler / DrumKit with a SoundFont.](https://pasetexplorer.com/images/docs/sm-import-sampler.webp)

Numbered marks on this screenshot:

1. The file you chose.
2. Where it goes: SET A · USER02 · slot 8.
3. Sampler or DrumKit (decided by the bank).
4. What is imported: samples, zones, velocity layers, tuning, volume, pan (kits) and reverb/chorus sends. Envelopes and filter use KORG defaults.
5. **Import**.

> **Tip:** If the .sf2 contains several presets, a **Preset** list appears: choose which one to import.

> **Note:** If the slot is taken or the bank is of the wrong kind, the sound goes to the **first free slot of the right bank** and you are told where. The new sound uses SET A’s sample memory — watch the memory bar.

## Import into a Medeli AKX set

![Right-click menu of an AKX Samples pack.](https://pasetexplorer.com/images/docs/akx-pack-menu.webp)

Numbered marks on this screenshot:

1. Right-click a pack (here the Samples pack)…
2. …to see its menu.
3. **Add .voi / .uvn / .kmp files…** — Yamaha .uvn and KORG .kmp are converted to Medeli .voi.

| Pack type | Right-click item | Files |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Styles pack | Import Style… | Any style format — converted to Medeli by the Converter. |
| Samples pack | Add .voi / .uvn / .kmp files… | .voi as is · .uvn and .kmp converted to .voi |
| DrumKits pack | Add .kit / .uvd files… | .kit as is · .uvd converted to .kit |

Packs also have an **Import from Community** button to pick one of your Community downloads. See the [Medeli AKX](https://pasetexplorer.com/tutorials?c=medeli-akx) chapter.
